Desert of souls is the first novel highly recommended a series of Arabian Nights-style by new author, Howard Andrew Jones. As many others have already somewhat detailed the storyline, suffice to say concerning the adventures of a scholar and the captain of the guard of a member of the Government of the Caliph Haroun al-Rashid as they go looking for a powerful magical tablet. Be pursued by an evil spy and a Magi, they encounter a lost city in the desert, a djinn, a desert of the real soul (hence the title) and other beings and objects, natural and magical. It is written in the style of the one thousand and one nights, but with emphasis on the action-adventure of a tale of sword and sorcery.
